Description:
The two-day Edmund Rice Justice Meet on Quality Education was jointly hosted by St. Vincent’s High & Technical School and St. Patrick’s Higher Secondary School on 18th and 19th of July,2025, bringing together 19 schools from in and around Asansol, including vernacular-medium schools. With the participation of over 150 students, the event, thoughtfully led by the Social Justice Animators and the students of both host schools, was an inspiring platform to explore SDG 4: Quality Education through interactive sessions, discussions and creative activities. The opening ceremony set the tone with a soulful song and dance presented by two guest schools, followed by a powerful nukkad natak by the students of St. Vincent’s High and Technical School, which highlighted the importance of inclusive education. This was followed by a general introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals and a focused discussion on SDG 4, our theme for the meet. Various activities kept the participants engaged, such as the SDG 4 Treasure Hunt, where students researched facts related to quality education, My Ideal Classroom, which encouraged students to design their dream classroom, and What If Scenarios, where they worked on hypothetical challenges and suggested innovative solutions. The second day began with a short session of meditation to centre the participants, followed by presentations of the My Ideal Classroom drawings, where students explained their creative ideas on inclusive learning spaces. We were honoured to have two inspiring guest speakers. Dr. Sumit Sanghai, an expert dentist, beautifully drew a comparison between teachers and doctors, emphasising how every student, like every patient, requires a different approach for the best outcomes. Mr. Sumit Bandhopadhyaya, a passionate master trainer, engaged students through varuiou interesting activities, highlighting the importance of teamwork, equity, and creativity to enhance the quality of education. The much-anticipated Shark Tank activity allowed students to identify real issues hindering quality education and pitch practical solutions to a panel of judges, sparking fresh ideas and bold problem-solving. The meet concluded with guidelines for project planning, where the participating schools were presented with ideas how they could carry forward what they learned at the justice meet within their own communities to promote inclusive and equitable learning environments. The event was a resounding success, filled with meaningful exchanges, youthful enthusiasm and a collective vision for a brighter educational future. As Nelson Mandela wisely said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
